LGBTQIA+ Mental Health
We recognize that our LGBTQIA+ student populations face challenges that are common for many college students, and sometimes face challenges that are unique to their gender and/or sexual identities. We invite students to talk openly about their identities without fear of judgement. In addition to individual counseling and referral services, we also have drop in discussion and support groups..
Common reasons LGBTQIA+ students may seek counseling services:
- Adjusting to campus
- Finding community and making friends
- Intersections of gender/sexuality with cultural identities
- Managing mental health symptoms, such as depression or anxiety
- Managing the impact of oppression and discrimination on your mental health
- Academic success and career planning as a LGBTQIA+ person
- Identity development
- Coming-out to friends and family (or deciding not to)
- Having healthy relationships
- Role of healthy sexual behaviors and mental health
- Documentation for gender affirming care
- Referrals for community resources
