Lauren Sanchez (pronouns: she/her) is a Counselor in the Counselors for Academic Residence (CARE) Program, a program that provides mental health services in academic offices to facilitate students' academic and life goals. Lauren provides individual, group and crisis counseling for students in the School of Nursing and Dell Medical School. She is also available to provide consultation to staff as well as prevention and outreach services.

Lauren's approach to therapy is strengths-based and client centered knowing that every client is the expert in their own experiences. She is a proponent of using applicable mindfulness and self-compassion practices in her sessions with clients. Lauren is passionate about helping adults navigate life transitions and increase awareness of their inner experiences. She values helping her clients create meaning in their lives. Lauren utilizes a variety of treatment modalities such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) with clients to assist them in coping with interpersonal issues, stress, anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic stress disorder related symptoms.

Lauren is a native Texan and fell in love with Austin 8 years ago. When she is not working, you can find her exploring local parks and restaurants, bargain shopping and spending time with her dogs.

CARE Clinical Services

  • Students may be referred by a staff or faculty member, they may also self-refer by contacting Lauren.
  • Lauren will assess student needs and offer appropriate services (e.g. short-term counseling, case management and referral, crisis intervention, or groups).

Trainings and Workshops

  • Offered to students and staff
  • Topics vary (e.g. self-care, test anxiety, mindfulness, assisting students in distress, mindfulness and stress reduction)

  • Available to consult one-on-one and in meetings/groups. Please contact Lauren for more information.

Office Hours:
Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. Students may leave a voicemail for Lauren at any time, and she will return contact during her office hours.
