Laura (pronouns: she/her/hers) is a Counselor in the Counselors in Academic Residence (CARE) Program, a program that provides mental health services in academic offices to facilitate students’ academic and life goals. She provides clinical services to Grauate School students and is available to provide consultation and prevention/outreach services to staff. Laura’s areas of professional interest include suicidal ideation, emotion dysregulation, borderline personality disorder, and mood disorders. Laura’s approach pulls from a variety of modalities including CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), while also incorporating mindfulness practices into her work. She is passionate about mental health, crisis intervention, social justice education, and addressing how to better support underrepresented populations through a trauma-informed lens. Laura is also fluent in Spanish and can provide bilingual services to students who may feel more comfortable speaking in Spanish. Laura hopes to increase access to mental health support and resources for individuals and aid in building their resiliency and self-advocacy.
